Project Cost Management – Managing the Orphan Constraint

Managing project cost is perhaps the least well executed of all project management skills - witness the historic cost overruns on virtually all projects.  We probably cannot eliminate cost overruns, but we can, and should, do everything we can to mitigate them - we have an obligation to our stakeholders to do so. 

Speaker Bio: Fred Black, PMP

Fred Black, President of BLAX Professional roject Management LLC

Fred Black is currently president of BLAX Professional Project Management, LLC – a project management consulting firm he founded in 2001. His most recent position in industry was as Director of Program Management at B/E Aerospace – a leader in the design and manufacture of aircraft interiors. He also led the Program Management Best Practices Implementation program at Boeing Commercial Airplanes. His entire career has been in project management – mostly on new product development projects. He has worked in aerospace and commercial product development on a variety of programs from the NASA Apollo Lunar Module and US Navy F-14 Tomcat fighter aircraft at Grumman, to the latest versions of the Boeing 747 and 767 aircraft and flight simulators.

He has been a member of advisory boards for project management masters programs at both the City University and the University of Washington, as well being an adjunct professor in both programs.

Fred is a certified Project Management Professional and before moving to Tucson was a member of the Puget Sound (Seattle) Chapter of PMI, where he served a two-year term as Chapter President. He also presented a number of papers and taught workshops on various project management subjects at PMI Symposia in various cities around the world.
