Project Management Soft Skills

This presentation provides insight into the importance of soft (human) skills in project management success. It highlights the recent focus of the PMBOK® Guide on these soft skills versus the predominant emphasis on hard (technical) skills. We delve into multiple soft skills and the balance between hard and soft skills that a project manager should possess. PMBOK® acknowledges research that the top 2% of project managers as designated by their bosses and teammates distinguish themselves by demonstrating superior relationship and communication skills

Stephen Courtney, PMP

Stephen Courtney is currently supporting an Enterprise IT Service Management (ITSM) System for NETCOM at Fort Huachuca AZ. Currently coordinating the world-wide upgrade of Remedy ITSM to all Army theaters. He assists the Government in preparing, staffing, coordinating, validating and executing project management plans and reports.

Mr. Courtney has performed Portfolio/Project Management, Business Development, Network Engineering, Information Security Analysis and Engineering, Systems Integration, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, and Hardware Design over a 40 year period for the Intelligence Community and the Military. His operations activities include: managing and leading teams, preparing project financial reports, providing information security oversight, performing O&M of networks, and designing client computing environments.  His business development activities include: marketing IT services, prospecting for leads, identifying new business, supporting new business, capture management, proposal support, developing teaming strategies, and devising business opportunities with enterprise solutions.  He has led many teams comprised of diverse skill sets to successfully achieve mission objectives.

Stephen has a BS Electrical Engineering, MBA in Finance, and Project Management Professional, Security+, and ITIL v4 Foundation certifications.
