In-person: Walking Tour: Barrio Viejo
Join us for a guided walking tour of Historic Scott Avenue and the Barrio Viejo! Learn the history of the Scottish Rite Cathedral, Blenman Inn and Temple of Music and Art. Then we stroll the sidewalks of the Barrio Viejo to learn how these structures were constructed for our harsh desert climate and the style changes that take place. See a Sonoran Row House in a state of ruin where the construction techniques are visible. Hear the lively tales of life in the Barrio, and how the neighborhood was nearly bulldozed in the late 1960s. See the site of the original natural spring that fed the Tucson Presidio, learn of a lush garden that was Tucson's first park, and hear the tale of the El Tiradito Wishing Shrine!
Join us afterwards for an optional pay-your-own-way social get-together at Street Taco and Beer Co.
