Great Leaders Go Beyond The Title
How many of you have wanted more in life? Life's situations are always changing, and we may be inadequately prepared for the changing situations. There is a solution. Hal will go over several possible considerations and examples.
Guest Speaker: Dr. Harold (Hal) Thomas
Dr. Thomas has been a beacon of leadership in the public and private sectors for an astounding 74 years. His journey began when he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950; a commitment spanned over two decades. He played pivotal roles during the Japanese occupation and the Korean Police Action. In 2010, Hal received a letter expressing "our warmest gratitude and deepest respect" from Lee Myung-bak, President of the Republic of Korea. His leadership was tested and proven in the Congo, Angola, Pueblo, Haiti, and Vietnam crises. His service and dedication are truly awe-inspiring.
Upon retirement, Hal applied the leadership skills he developed in military service to State and Local government and private sector clients. Hal entered the field of public education, first as a teacher in Flagstaff and then with various universities and governmental agencies. He provided public and private sector leadership workshops. He served as a member of the school board for the Sierra Vista schools for eight years.
Hal was a member of the Sierra Vista Downtown Commission for beautifying the west end of Sierra Vista. He was on the organizing board for the University of Arizona South Foundation. In addition, he was an organizing member of the Economic Development Foundation, a member of the Sierra Vista Personnel Board, and a member of the Sierra Vista Benefits Trust. He also spent 19 years as a coordinator and volunteer with The Committee for Prevention of Child Abuse of Sierra Vista, AZ.
In recognition of his exceptional service, Dr. Harold (Hal) Thomas was inducted into the prestigious Arizona Veterans' Hall of Fame in 2010. His contributions were further acknowledged by Congresswoman Martha McSally in 2015, who honored him as a veteran of distinction. These accolades serve as a testament to the impact of his leadership and his unwavering dedication. Dr. Thomas has been a resident of Sierra Vista since August 1978, where his influence continues to be felt.
